Charrette: İstanbul Expo Center

For the "Charette", which will be a workshop study within BUILdIST Building Materials Fair, invited architects are expected to design an urban renewal project for CNR Yeşilköy Exhibition Center and the surrounding neighbourhood. Charette will be held on the first day of the fair (September 30th, 2010) by the participation of 5 architectural offices. Following the first day of workshopping, the jury session and then an evaluation meeting will take place the next day with the participation of architects. Participating architects will be asked to take on the task of envisioning the area of CNR Exhibition Center and the surrounding neighbourhood in terms of increasing spatial quality and with regards to future urban development. The necessary data and studying materials for the attending architects will be provided by BUILdIST fair management.
The word "Charrette" refers to a session in which a definite group of people endeavour to solve a design problem. The most known one is MOMA's charrette in 1997 for their new additional building and renovation works. For this study, 10 world renowned architects,selected by the Museum Architect Election Committee, had been invited. In Turkey for the first time in 2004, three charrettes had been organized during Architecture Festival, organized by Arkitera. All the teams attended to Charrette will be awarded by an attendance certificate during BUILdIST award ceremonies.
